Permanent Facial & Beard Hair Removal by Electrolysis

Restore Balance. Reveal Confidence.

Electrolysis offers a precise, permanent solution for removing unwanted facial and beard hair safely and effectively.

Recognised by the FDA as the only method of permanent hair removal, electrolysis gently targets individual follicles to achieve smooth, lasting results.

Whether you’re addressing hormonally driven hair growth, gender affirming goals, or simply preferring a softer look, electrolysis is a personalised path toward confidence and comfort.

How Electrolysis Works

During treatment, a fine, sterile probe is inserted into each hair follicle. A controlled current then destroys the follicle’s growth center, preventing future regrowth. Each treated hair is removed with care, leaving the surrounding skin unharmed.

Because every hair grows in cycles, several sessions are required to catch all hairs in their active stage.

Understanding Hair Growth Cycles

Hair grows in repeating stages:

Anagen (Active Growth): The hair is connected to its root, this is the optimal time for electrolysis.

Catagen (Transitional): The follicle detaches and begins to shrink.

Telogen (Resting): The hair falls out naturally before a new one forms.

That’s why consistency in returning for regular sessions is essential for complete clearance.

The Role of Anti-Androgen Medication

For clients with hormone-related hair growth, including those with PCOS or those undergoing gender transition (MTF) — anti-androgen medications such as spironolactone, finasteride, or cyproterone acetate may help reduce new hair stimulation.

While electrolysis permanently removes existing hairs, anti-androgens can help slow or minimize new growth, making your overall results more effective and lasting.

Your electrologist may collaborate with your healthcare provider to ensure your treatment plan supports your body’s natural balance and your aesthetic goals.

How Many Hours Are Needed?

Every face and every follicle is unique. The total time required depends on hair density, texture, hormonal balance, and treatment consistency.

Typical estimates for full facial or beard removal:

Light to moderate growth: 100–200 hours

Dense or coarse beard growth: 300–400+ hours

Treatment period: 12–24 months (weekly or biweekly sessions)

Initial sessions focus on achieving the first full clearance, followed by maintenance visits as new hairs appear in their growth cycle.

Aftercare & Healing

Mild redness, warmth, or swelling is normal after treatment and typically subsides within a few hours. For best healing:

Avoid touching, makeup, or sun exposure for 24 hours

Keep the area clean and moisturized with a gentle product

Avoid exfoliation or active skincare for 48 hours

Over time, your skin will appear smoother and clearer, and once a follicle is successfully treated, it will never grow back.

Example of the hair the growth cycle and complete clearance of the upper lip

A typical male beard is composed of some 20,000 to 30,000 hairs or more, of which 600 to 1,000 will form the moustache. Hair on the top lip rests for 6 weeks and grows for 10 weeks; only those hairs in the anagen growth phase will be visible at the time of the first treatment. The density of beard hair follicles varies significantly from person to person and is also affected by factors like facial area and ethnicity. Values for follicle density can range from 20 to 80 follicles/cm².

When the resting hairs appear, it is termed 'false regrowth,' as the hairs are yet to be treated. Some treated hairs will grow back; this is 'true regrowth.' Those that do regrow will generally be weaker, and as treatment progresses, they will cease growing entirely.
